About

We are a community of Ebe indigenes living in the United Kingdom.

Our Hometown

Ebe is located about 20 kilometres from Enugu in the Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State.

According to local legend, a woman named Ojebe Ogene gave birth to seven sons, the oldest of whom was Ebe.  The other sons, in order of birth, were Abor, Ukana, Awhum, Okpatu, Umulumgbe and Ukehe.  The seven towns are known as Umu Ojebe Ogene clan.

Ebe comprises of seven villages: Adukwu, Omadi, Omadiuwenu, Umezike, Eziama, Amagu and Umuavuluum.

The Igwe (King) and his Royal Cabinet preside over the town’s affairs.

History of Ebe Union UK

The Union’s founding members were:  Mr Lawrence Chinegwundoh, Ozo Joseph Ani (late), Ozo Gregory Chinegwundoh (late), Mr Matthias Egbujie and Ozo John Akubuilo (late).  Other members were:  Ozo Fidelis Ozouli, Mr John Ikwuson, Mr Casimir Ogenyi (late), Mr Justin Ochin, Mr Fabian Ilo (late), Dr Matthias Ilo (late) and Mr Ben Okwunweze.

The Union was re-formed in 2002 with Mr Kenneth Ilo at the helm.  The aims and objectives of the Union are:

  1. To promote the spirit of unity among all members and their families
  2. To support and assist each other in times of social and welfare needs
  3. To support any beneficial and reasonable charitable/fundraising activities in our hometown, Ebe, but also in the UK.
  4. To provide educational scholarships to selected indigenous children of Ebe (in Ebe)
  5. To initiate social, economic, healthcare, educational and structural development projects in our hometown, Ebe.
  6. To encourage our children in the UK to learn the Igbo language and culture, and attend Igbo cultural events.
